Something about the new year suggests that fresh starts are bound to result in victory. Though we can initiate changes at any time, we are conditioned to believe in the power of a pristine slate to write upon.
As the year comes to a close, we think about the aspects of our lives that are in need of alteration. Our past errors are discarded with a year that abruptly ceases to exist. We vow that this time we’ll approach things differently. We intend to makeover the facets of life which are lacking.
Much of the time we start with external changes. We can change our actions. We can alter our hairstyles or update our wardrobes. We can associate with different people. We may switch jobs or professions. All of these modifications may be necessary for a jumpstart.
However, real change, lasting change, is effected from an internal perspective. Whatever type of makeover we choose for ourselves is dependent on our inner foundations. To genuinely transform in any capacity, we must recognize our core issues. Once they are identified, only then can we be sure that our external changes will endure.
That foundation is strengthened by our willingness to continually recommit to whatever standards we set forth for ourselves. It literally only takes a second to change our mindsets, but it takes sustained effort to act upon it.
With the advent of the 2010, evaluate your foundation. If it originates from spirit, your makeover is destined to be successful.
Happy New Year!
